Jules Jackson - P Bass Pickup Comparison - Fender vs SD SPB-1
1973 Fender Precision Bass with D'Addario flat-wound strings. Before & after comparison of the original stock pickup, before swapping it out for a Seymour Duncan SPB-1. Recorded direct via a UAD Apollo (clean preamp - no amp sim). The preamp gain was the same for both examples, and the mix is completely dry with no EQ or compression.
0:00 - original pickup, tone 100%
0:27 - original pickup, tone 50%
0:51 - original pickup, tone 0%
1:16 - SD SPB-1 pickup, tone 100%
1:42 - SD SPB-1 pickup, tone 50%
2:06 - SD SPB-1 pickup, tone 0%

Update! The SD pickup stayed in for a while, and I was very happy with how it sounded through an amp and sat 'in the mix,' both live and on recording. (It was used on most of this album, recorded through the UAD Ampeg SVT plugin: https://ninaclark.bandcamp.com/album/alpha ).
However, the original pickup went back in eventually! It was the right thing to do 😉 -
